How do I move a single word?
Dotted words are the ones we’re least sure of. Select one and nudge it without moving its neighbours.
Select the line, tap the word, then use the ← and → buttons to move just that word earlier or later.
Which words to look at
Words underlined with amber dots are the ones lyrik is least sure of. When you select a line that has one, you'll see: 'Dotted words are the ones we’re least sure of. Click one to move it.' On a phone, tap the word.
You can move any word, dotted or not.
How to move a word
- Tap the line in the list to select it. Its words appear one by one.
- Tap the word. It plays from just before that word.
- The word controls appear: timing arrows, Edit word, Delete and Undo.
- Press ← to move the word 20 milliseconds earlier, or → to move it 20 milliseconds later.
- Tap the word again to hear it. Repeat until it lands as you sing it.
On a computer you can use the keyboard: ← and → move the selected word 20 milliseconds, or 100 milliseconds with Shift held. Press Esc to let go of the word. After that, the arrow keys move the whole line again.
Good to know
- Only that word moves. The words either side stay where they are.
- A word can't pass its neighbours. It always stays at least 20 milliseconds from the words before and after it, including the last word of the line before and the first word of the next.
- You can move when a word starts, not how long it lasts. To change how long a held note shows, there isn't a control yet.
- On a phone, use the arrow buttons. The hint mentions Shift, which is for keyboards. Each button press moves the word 20 milliseconds.
- If a whole line is out, moving the line is quicker. See How do I fix a line's words or timing?
- Moving words is free, and your changes save themselves.
If something goes wrong
- The word won't move any further. It has reached its neighbour. Move the neighbouring word first, or move the whole line.
- The arrow keys move the line, not the word. Tap the word first, so it's selected. Press Esc to go back to moving the line.
- 'Not saved' appears under More tools. See Are my sync fixes saved, and can I undo them?
Hidden extras
- With More tools open, long-press a word (or right-click it on a computer) to make it the line's big word. Styles make that word stand out. Long-press it again to have none.
