How do I choose which word stands out on each line?

Pick one big word per line; every style makes it stand out in its own way.

Open Big words under More ways to tweak it and tap the word you want to feature on each line; every style makes that word stand out in its own way.

Step by step

On a computer

  1. Open More ways to tweak it.
  2. Click Big words. It says Our pick until you've chosen some yourself, then Your picks.
  3. A page opens: 'Click a word to make it the line’s big word. Click it again for none.' Every sung line is listed with its words as buttons. The filled word is that line's big word.
  4. Click a word to make it the big word. Click the filled word to have none on that line.
  5. Click the back arrow, or press Esc, to go back to More.

On a phone or tablet

  1. Open More (phone) or More ways to tweak it (tablet).
  2. Next to Big words, tap Choose…. A line beside it says how many lines have one.
  3. 'Tap a word to make it the line’s big word. Tap it again to have none.'
  4. Tap Done when you've finished.

From the Sync step

  1. On the Sync screen, open More tools.
  2. Select a line, then long-press a word (right-click with a mouse). The hint says 'Long-press a word to make it the big word.'
  3. Do the same again to have none on that line.

Good to know

  • One big word per line. The style decides how it stands out: its own ink label in Xerox, written by hand in Postscript, crossing in front of you in Behind.
  • We pick some to start with. The analysis chooses big words from your hooks, your title, your held notes and your rhymes. Back to our pick puts every line back to our choice.
  • Big words belong to your lyrics, so they apply in every style, not just the one you're on.
  • Each pick saves straight away.
  • How many have one. The studio says 'No lines have one yet', 'A few lines have one', 'Some lines have one', 'About half the lines have one', 'Most lines have one' or 'Nearly every line has one'.
  • 'Fewer big words hit harder.' This appears when more than 6 in 10 lines have a big word. A few well-chosen words stand out more than many.
  • Ad-lib lines aren't listed. They can't have a big word.
  • Reset style doesn't touch big words. Only Back to our pick does.
  • It's free.

If something goes wrong

  • The other lines are greyed out for a second. While one pick saves, the other lines wait. Tap again a moment later.
  • The preview jumped back to the start of my clip. On a phone or tablet the preview reloads after each pick. Make all your picks, then watch.
  • A short technical message appears, such as 'The look track is not ready yet.', 'Unknown line' or 'Bad word'. That pick didn't save. Reload the page and try again. If it keeps happening, contact us with your project link.

Hidden extras

  • In Postscript, the big word you pick is the one written by hand, unless it's a very long word (more than 14 letters).
  • Picking big words on the Sync screen is handy while you're already listening line by line.
