Using Postscript in lyrik.fm

A quiet serif stanza over a soft-focus picture, with a few words written by hand as you sing them.

Pick Postscript on the Style step: a few lines of quiet serif type sit in a calm corner of a soft-focus picture, and one or two words in each stanza are written by hand as you sing them.

What it looks like

  • Small book serif, one to three lines at a time, in a calm corner, low down, or in a centred column.
  • A soft-focus picture behind, made from your cover: blurred, colour-graded and dotted with soft out-of-focus lights.
  • Handwritten words. In each stanza, one or two words are written in joined handwriting as you sing them.
  • The light moves with the music. The soft lights flare on the kick drum and open up on the chorus, and the focus shifts at each new part of the song.
  • A title and a signature. Your song title, with your artist name signed in handwriting, opens the song and closes it.

Best for

  • Ballads, R&B, indie, folk, country and gospel.
  • Calm songs, roughly 55 to 125 BPM, and songs with space in them.
  • Not for rap or dance tracks. For those, try Deck or Xerox.

How to make it

  1. On the Style step ('Pick a style.'), find Postscript. On a phone, tap the Style tab first.
  2. Tap or click the card to see your clip (your first chorus, to start with) in Postscript.
  3. Choose a Font, a colour under Colour · from your cover, and a Lyric size.
  4. Open More ways to tweak it (the More tab on a phone) for Where the lyrics sit, the background, Handwriting, Handwritten words, Mood and Focus.
  5. Choose which words are handwritten with Big words (see the tips).
  6. Press Shuffle for a new take. Undo goes back.
  7. Check both shapes, then press Download · from £4.99$5.99€5.99CA$8.99A$8.99.

Tips for great results

  • Choose the handwritten words. The big word you pick on a line is always the one written by hand. Under More ways to tweak it, open Big words and tap the word on each line you want in handwriting. See How do I choose which word stands out on each line?
  • Dark cover? A dark cover blurred can look murky. Try the Bokeh background, or a Mood such as Night or Autumn.
  • Let it breathe. Calm under Energy suits a slow song.
  • Wander keeps a long song moving without any big effects.

16:9 and 9:16

  • 16:9 sets the stanza in a corner, low down or in a centred column, with plenty of picture around it.
  • 9:16 allows up to six short rows, all inside the area TikTok, Reels and Shorts leave clear. A long handwritten word gets its own row, drawn smaller so it fits.

Languages

  • If your lyrics use the hooked Hausa letters (ɓ ɗ ƙ ƴ), the typed lines move to a matching serif that has them.
  • If the handwriting can't write the letters in your song, the handwritten words are set in an italic serif instead.

Good to know

  • Colour, size, capitals, ad-libs and energy carry across if you switch style. Postscript remembers its own font, position, background and rows.
  • Shuffle gives every style a new take, not just Postscript.
  • Previewing is free. Your first eligible clip is free too; other downloads use credits.

If something goes wrong

  • The picture behind is too dark or muddy. Try Bokeh, Paper or Linen, or a Mood such as Natural.
  • Too many words in handwriting. Set Handwritten words to Few, or pick fewer big words.
  • With a mouse, the Our pick position's tip reads 'Lyrics at the our pick'. That's a wording slip. Our pick chooses the position for you.

Hidden extras

  • The opening title and closing signature use your song title and artist name, so check them before you upload. See How do I set the song title and artist name?
  • On a computer, press S for a new take and F to switch shape.
