Using Deck in lyrik.fm

One to three huge centred words with a different type effect on every screen.

Pick Deck on the Style step: one to three huge words fill the middle of the screen, and every screen gets its own type effect, timed to your voice and the beat.

What it looks like

  • Huge words, dead centre. Heavy capitals in two inks taken from your cover.
  • A new effect on every screen. Each screen is dealt one: a stretch, a fill that rises as you sing, letter-spacing that opens on held notes, wipes, tilts on the beat, slams, slice glitches, an outline that's slightly out of register, stacked echoes, 3D depth or a flip.
  • Words to come show as outlines, then fill as you sing them.
  • Every chorus cuts to new colours, with a giant, faint 'ghost' of its big word behind.
  • With the Melt font, held notes melt as you sing them, and the chorus hits solid.
  • Broad is lyrik's own extra-wide font. It's always in capitals, even with lowercase picked.

Best for

  • EDM, dance, pop, rap hooks, and afro and rock anthems.
  • Mid to high energy, roughly 70 to 180 BPM.
  • Songs with drops: it saves its loudest effects for them.
  • Not ballads. For a slow song, try Widescreen or Postscript.

How to make it

  1. On the Style step ('Pick a style.'), find Deck. On a phone, tap the Style tab first.
  2. Tap or click the card to see your clip (your first chorus, to start with) in Deck.
  3. Choose a Font, a colour under Colour · from your cover, and a Lyric size.
  4. Open More ways to tweak it (the More tab on a phone) for Words, Ghost words, the background and Energy.
  5. Press Shuffle to deal a new set of effects. Undo goes back.
  6. Check both shapes, then press Download · from £4.99$5.99€5.99CA$8.99A$8.99.

Control Choices

Font availability depends on your lyrics. Colour choices can depend on the cover, and the Ad-libs row needs marked ad-libs.

Deck always sets your words dead centre, so the panel says 'Deck chooses where the lyrics sit for you.'

Tips for great results

  • Choose your big words. The chorus ghost uses the line's big word. Under More ways to tweak it, open Big words to choose them.
  • Fast verses? Leave Words on Our pick, or choose Two or three, so each word has time to be read.
  • Hype brings in the biggest effects. Calm keeps it smooth, with less melting.
  • Shuffle until you like the run of effects. Your font, colour and size stay as they are.

16:9 and 9:16

  • Both shapes centre the words. In 9:16 every effect stays inside the area TikTok, Reels and Shorts leave clear.
  • Melt and Broad are wide fonts, so long words are set smaller in 9:16.

Languages

  • Melt sets the most languages.
  • Broad, Rethink and Outfit grey out for lyrics in Yoruba, Igbo, Hausa and Akan, with the reason on the chip. Broad also greys out for Vietnamese, Greek and Cyrillic lyrics, and for lyrics that use ¿ ¡ « » „ or ·, as many Spanish, French and Catalan songs do.
  • If no chip can set your lyrics, the whole song is drawn in a plainer matching font that sets Yoruba, Igbo, Hausa and Akan.

Good to know

  • Colour, size, capitals, ad-libs and energy carry across if you switch style. Deck remembers its own font, background, Words and Ghost words.
  • Shuffle gives every style a new take, not just Deck.
  • Previewing is free. Your first eligible clip is free too; other downloads use credits.

If something goes wrong

  • Words feel hard to read. Try Calm under Energy, or Two or three under Words, or a smaller Lyric size.
  • A font chip is greyed out. Tap it to see the letters it lacks, for example 'This font doesn’t have ẹ ọ, which your lyrics use'. Use Melt.
  • The ghost word is distracting. Set Ghost words to Off.

Hidden extras

  • The ghost word appears on choruses and drops (with Hype, on build-ups too; with Calm, only on hook lines), so a song with a tagged [Chorus] shows it off best.
  • On a computer, press S to deal a new set of effects.
