How do I change the font?

Pick from the fonts each style offers; we check every one can set your lyrics.

Tap one of the Aa chips in the Font row; each style offers its own handful of fonts, and we check that every one can draw all the letters in your lyrics.

Step by step

  1. Find the Font row.
    • On a computer it's the first row under 'Make it yours.'
    • On a tablet it's under the grid of styles.
    • On a phone, tap the Font tab.
  2. Each chip shows 'Aa' in that font, with a name under it. Tap or click one. The preview changes straight away.
  3. Try a few. The one you pick is remembered for this style.

What the names mean

  • Original: the style's own font, the one it was designed around.
  • Our pick: we choose the font that suits this style and your song.
  • The other names say what the font looks like, for example Bold sans, Wide, Condensed, Serif, Tabloid, Wood type or Marker. Each style has its own set. The style articles list them all, starting from Which lyric video styles can I choose?
  • Deck's Melt moves on its own: held notes melt as they're sung, and the chorus hits solid.

With a mouse, hover over a chip to see 'See your lyrics in Wide' (or whichever font it is).

Good to know

  • Fonts are remembered per style. Changing the font in Marker doesn't change Xerox. When you come back to a style, its font is as you left it.
  • We check your letters. Each song is checked against each font, including accents and marks such as Yoruba dots under letters. A font that can't draw them is greyed out.
  • We never mix fonts in one song. If a font can't draw every letter, the whole song moves to a matching font, so it all looks the same. Broadside is the one exception: when only a few words need it, just those words use a matching font.
  • The check runs again after you edit your lyrics. Fixing words in Sync can change which fonts are offered.
  • Changing the font is free and instant.

If something goes wrong

  • A chip is greyed out. Tap it to see why, for example 'This font doesn’t have ẹ ọ, which your lyrics use'. That font can't draw those letters. Pick another one. See Why is a style or font greyed out?
  • 'Your lyrics use letters Marker doesn’t have, so we’re showing a font that has them.' The font you saved for this style can't set your lyrics, so the style draws them in a matching font instead. Pick another chip if you'd like something different.
  • A font I used before is greyed out now. You probably edited your lyrics in Sync and added letters it can't draw. Undo the edit, or pick another font.
  • With a mouse, a tip says, for example, 'Gothic: a few words are set in a matching fallback face'. This happens in Broadside. A handful of your words use a matching font because the one you chose lacks a letter. Everything else is in your font.

Hidden extras

  • Some handwriting fonts only cover Western European letters. In Marker, Marker and Scrawl are greyed out for songs that need other letters, and the song is written in Felt tip instead. In Diary, Marker, Scrawl, Cursive and Quick hand work the same way, and the song is written in Diary's Original hand (Shantell Sans), or Neat for Hausa.
