How do I switch to ALL CAPS or lowercase?

The Capitals row, which styles set their own, and how each language’s rules are kept.

Open More ways to tweak it and use the Capitals row to choose As typed, ALL CAPS or lowercase; some styles set their own capitals, so the row only shows the choices a style allows.

Step by step

  1. Open More ways to tweak it (on a phone, the More tab).
  2. Find Capitals and tap a choice:
Choice What it does
As typed Capitals just as you typed them
ALL CAPS Every letter a capital
lowercase No capitals at all

Which styles let you choose

Styles Capitals row
Postscript, Now Playing, Texts, Diary As typed, ALL CAPS and lowercase
Tapestry Our pick, ALL CAPS and lowercase
Folio As typed and lowercase
Xerox, Deck, Widescreen ALL CAPS and lowercase
Xerox Poster, Broadside, Marker, Departure, Textmode, Behind, Ransom No row. The style sets its own capitals, and the line at the foot of More says so.

A few styles have their own rules:

  • Ransom mixes capitals and small letters on purpose, cutting each word out letter by letter.
  • Textmode sets the big words in capitals and types the line as you wrote it.
  • Tapestry: the first chip is Our pick, which follows the picture you chose. With Record, Poster or Waveform the lyrics are in capitals. With Silhouette they're as typed.
  • Widescreen: the Serif & script font doesn't set capitals, so with it ALL CAPS shows your lyrics as typed. lowercase still works.

Good to know

  • Each language keeps its own rules. Turkish keeps its dotted İ and dotless ı, and Yoruba keeps its marks when letters become capitals.
  • Your choice follows you to every style that offers it. In a style that doesn't, the style's own choice is used, and yours comes back afterwards.
  • It's free and instant.

If something goes wrong

  • There's no Capitals row. The style you're on sets its own capitals.
  • I picked As typed but some words are still in capitals. As typed uses your lyrics exactly as written. If you typed a word in capitals, it shows in capitals. Fix the word in Sync: Back to sync, open More tools, select the line and tap Edit. See How do I fix a line’s words or timing, or shift every line?
