How do I fix a line’s words or timing, or shift every line?

Select a word to edit, delete or move it. Open More tools for whole-line changes.

In the studio, open Check the words to reach Listen and fix. For a whole line, open More tools, select the line and press Edit. Type your correction and press Enter to save. For timing, use −50 to move the selected line 50 milliseconds earlier or +50 to move it later. Listen again and wait for Saved before closing.

For a small correction, select the word in Listen and fix. Use Edit word, Delete, or the timing arrows. The controls appear only for the selected word.

Change or delete a word

  1. Select the word, then choose Edit word.
  2. Type the correction and press Save. Press Cancel to leave it unchanged.
  3. Choose Delete to remove a word that is not sung. The other words keep their timings. Deleting the last word of a line removes that line.
  4. Use Undo if needed, then listen again and wait for Saved.

For larger changes, open More tools to work on a whole line.

Nudge a line earlier or later

  1. Tap More tools (next to the line count). The mode Listen and fix is on, and each line shows its start time.
  2. Tap a line to select it. It plays from just before it starts.
  3. Press −50 to move the whole line 50 milliseconds earlier, or +50 to move it 50 milliseconds later.
  4. The line plays again from just before it, so you hear the change. Repeat until it's right.

On a computer, select a line and use the ← and → keys: 50 milliseconds a press, or 250 with Shift held.

Change a line's words

  1. With More tools open, select the line.
  2. Press Edit.
  3. Type your change. Press Enter to save, or Esc to cancel.

How editing works:

  • Same number of words: only the spelling changes. The timing stays exactly as it was.
  • A different number of words: the line's timing is spread out again by word length. Listen afterwards, then nudge or tap the line if needed.
  • An empty line: ignored, so you can't delete a line this way.

Mark a line as an ad-lib

  1. With More tools open, select the line.
  2. Press Ad-lib. The line turns italic.

Ad-libs are shown smaller or at the edge by most styles, can be hidden in the studio, and are skipped by tap mode. Press Ad-lib again to undo it.

Confirm a line is right

On an amber line, press ✓ ('It’s right'). The line turns green.

Shift every line

Use this when the whole song is out by the same amount.

  1. Tap More tools.
  2. Drag the Shift every line slider towards Earlier or Later. It moves every line by up to 1 second either way.
  3. Play a few lines to check.
  4. Press Reset to go back to no shift.

Good to know

  • Edits are free and save themselves.
  • You can’t insert, split or join lines, or add a missing verse. You can delete unwanted words, including all the words in a line. To change the lines themselves, start a new video with the same audio file and paste your lyrics again. If it’s the very same file, syncing it again can be free. See Starting another project with the same audio
  • Fixed a typo after picking a style? Open Check the words in the studio (or the Sync step in the step-by-step layout). It's free.

If something goes wrong

  • 'Line l12 is not valid'. The save was turned down. Reload the page and make the change again.
  • 'Not saved' next to Undo. Your last change didn't save. Check your connection, then make another change or press Looks right: both try the save again. Don't reload until it says 'Saved', or your latest fixes are lost. See Are my sync fixes saved?
  • You can't see −50, +50, Edit or Ad-lib. Open More tools first, then tap a line.

Hidden extras

  • With More tools open, long-press a word (or right-click it) to make it the line's big word, the one styles make stand out. Do it again to have none.
  • Undo sits at the end of the More tools bar, and Cmd+Z / Ctrl+Z works too.
  • Shortcuts are ignored while you're typing, so editing is safe.
