Sync says ‘We hear singing at 1:23 that no line starts on’. What does that mean?
Usually an oh or a woah, sometimes a repeat your lyrics don’t show. What to check, and how to fix a repeat for free.
lyrik can hear you singing at a moment where none of your lyric lines start. Most often that's an oh, a woah or an ooh: singing with no words that your lyrics don't write down. Sometimes it's a line or chorus sung more times than your lyrics show.
What you'll see
Above the Check 3 lines button, a hint gives the times, for example:
'We hear singing at 1:23, 2:45 that no line starts on. It’s often an oh or a woah, or a line sung more times than your lyrics show.'
Some lines may also be amber with the reason 'there’s singing here with no words on it, maybe an oh or a woah, or a line your lyrics don’t have', or 'it may start early (there’s singing just before it, maybe an oh or a woah)'.
Why it happens
The most common causes:
- Oh's, woah's and ooh's. Sung sounds with no words, before a line or between lines. Lyrics rarely write them down.
- A chorus you didn't write out again. For example, you pasted the chorus once, but you sing it three times.
- A line sung twice with only one copy in your lyrics.
- Backing vocals or ad-libs you didn't include.
An oh just before a line can pull that line's first word early, onto the oh. Missing repeats are worse: lyrik has to stretch the lines it has across more singing, so nearby lines often end up out of time too.
How to check
- Play the song from just before each time in the hint. Tap the waveform at the bottom to jump there.
- Listen for what you're singing.
- If it's an oh or a woah, play the line after it. If its first word comes in early, on the oh, move that word to where it's sung. See How do I move a single word?
- If it's a repeat or a missing line, fix it as below. If it's just a breath, a hum or a sound you don't want shown, you can carry on.
How to fix it, free
You can't add lines on the Sync screen. Instead, start again with the same audio file and complete lyrics. The sync costs nothing the second time.
- Copy your lyrics somewhere and add the missing repeats. Write them out in full, or mark them:
- An empty [Chorus] tag repeats the last chorus.
- [Chorus x2] sings that chorus twice.
- x2 at the end of a line sings the line twice.
- Round brackets mark ad-libs, such as (oh oh). This is also how to show an oh or a woah in your video.
- Tap the song menu at the top of the page (it shows your song's title). Under Your videos, tap Start a new video.
- Choose the exact same audio file you uploaded before.
- Paste your corrected lyrics and answer the other questions.
- Press Sync my lyrics. The cost line underneath reminds you: 'Free again if you’ve synced this exact track before.' No credits or free syncs are taken for the same audio. Your wallet shows it as 'same audio as before, no charge'.
- The analysis is quicker too: 'We’ve heard this track before, so this is quicker.'
Good to know
- "Exact same audio" means the same file, without changing its contents. An MP3 of your WAV, a new mix or a trimmed edit counts as a new track and costs a new sync.
- The free re-sync is for your account. It also needs the earlier project to still be there, finished, with its sync not refunded.
- Watch out for '(Repeat chorus)'. On its own line, it repeats the verse or stanza just above it, not the chorus. Use an empty [Chorus] tag instead.
- 'Chorus x2' without square brackets is read as words to sing. Use [Chorus x2].
- Your style choices stay with the old project, so pick your style again in the new one.
- See How do I mark choruses, verses and repeats?
If something goes wrong
- The new sync isn't free. The file isn't the same audio as before. Check you chose the original file, not an MP3 of it, a new mix or an edit.
- 'You’ve started the maximum number of songs today. Try again tomorrow.' You've started this same track many times today. Try again tomorrow.
- The hint is still there after the fix. Listen at the new times. It may be an oh, an ad-lib or a backing vocal you'd rather not show, in which case you can carry on.
Hidden extras
- Before you upload, the line under the lyrics box says what lyrik will tidy, for example '12 lines. We’ll tidy the tags and repeats.' If it doesn't mention repeats and your song has some, check how you've marked them.
