What cover art works best?

Most styles take their colours from your cover (Flicker stays black and white). Sizes, formats, cropping and the person cut-out.

Change an existing cover

In the studio's Colour controls, choose Change cover (or Add cover art if you skipped it). Choose a JPG or PNG, review it in the cover sheet and choose Use this cover. Wait for it to finish preparing before downloading. Changing the cover is free and keeps your lyrics and timing; the studio refreshes the artwork and colours. Existing paid downloads keep their saved cover.

A square JPG or PNG, about 3000 pixels across, works best: most styles take their colours from your cover, and some use a cut-out of the person on it.

How to add your cover

  1. When lyrik asks 'Got cover art? Every style takes its colours from it.', tap Add cover art.
  2. Choose your image. It appears in the conversation.
  3. Tap Keep this one, or Choose another to pick a different image.
  4. No art yet? Tap Skip for now. See I don’t have cover art yet. What happens if I skip it?

The note under the question sums it up: 'JPG or PNG, square, 3000 px is ideal. You can skip it.'

What makes a good cover for lyrik

  • Square. Art that isn’t square is cropped to a square from the centre, and you don’t see the crop first. Crop it yourself before you upload, so nothing important is cut off.
  • Big enough. 3000 × 3000 pixels is ideal. Smaller art (under 2048 pixels) is enlarged automatically, but starting big looks best.
  • Clear colours. Most styles build their colours from your cover, so the colours in your art are the colours in your video.
  • A clear person, if you like. When there’s a person on the cover, lyrik cuts them out. That cut-out is used by several styles:
    • Behind puts your lyrics behind you. Without a person on the cover it is greyed out, with 'Needs a photo of a person on the cover'.
    • Tapestry’s Silhouette fills your shape with your lyrics.
    • Xerox cuts you out of the photocopied collage.

Good to know

  • JPG or PNG, up to 20 MB. The size is checked after the upload.
  • Cover art saved inside your audio file isn’t read. Add it here.
  • You can change the cover in the studio with Change cover. See Starting another project with the same audio
  • You can still set your own colour in the studio with + Your colour.

If something goes wrong

  • 'Cover art must be a JPG or PNG.' Save your image as a JPG or PNG and try again.
  • 'That cover is over 20 MB.' Export a smaller version. A 3000 × 3000 JPG is usually a few MB.
  • The top of my head is cut off. Your cover wasn’t square, so it was cropped from the centre. Crop it to a square yourself, then use Change cover.
  • Behind is greyed out. lyrik didn’t find a person on your cover.

Hidden extras

  • We also accept WebP images, but the file picker may not show them. Save a WebP as a JPG or PNG to be safe.
